Implementing myBMP: Mitch and Melinda Brimblecombe

Mitch and Melinda Brimblecombe recently completed their myBMP (Best Management Practices) certification for their 'Moira Farming' property in Queensland's Lockyer Valley.

The Brimblecombes saw their journey to myBMP certification as an opportunity to improve their business processes, with the certification bringing significant improvements to their farm’s safety.

“It’s helped with our processes around the workshop, spray shed, chemicals, fuel storage, and signage,” Mitch explained.

Mitch estimated the certification process involved about 30 hours of administration and cost roughly $5,000 in materials.

“We had to do some bunding around the fuel tanks and chemical storage shed, and spend about two grand on signage,” Mitch said. They opted for gravel bonding, which was convenient and allowed them to handle the earthworks themselves.

Support from Cotton Australia's Paul Sloman was invaluable in their journey. “I couldn’t have done it without him,” Mitch said. "Some of the categories we completed quickly, while others took more time, but the process was manageable with guidance."

For Melinda, the financial incentive was a motivator. “In other industries, like horticulture, there’s no financial incentive. If we don’t have Freshcare, we don’t supply,” she said.
