Cotton Industry celebrates cotton grower on Farmer of the Year award

Cotton Australia Chair Nigel Burnett has praised the efforts of well-known Queensland cotton farmers Nigel and Vanessa Corish and their family for being recognised as the Weekly Times Farmer of the Year.

In a glittering and highly publicised event at Melbourne’s MCG, the Corish family from Condamine was named the overall winner of The Weekly Times Coles 2023 Farmer of the Year.

In doing so, the Corish family was up against Australia’s best farmers in beef, cropping, dairy, horticulture, sheep and innovation to win the overall award.

Mr Burnett said the award was no surprise given Nigel’s commitment to cotton industry best practice, sustainable farming but also the broader Corish family’s excellence in growing cotton over many years.

“Nigel has a passion for helping others by sharing knowledge and the judges recognised his innovative approach and efforts to reduce nitrogen use while increasing yields.

“I applaud Nigel, Vanessa and their three children Harry, Will and Henry. They are a great example of the committed and dedicated farming families that form the backbone of Australian agriculture, and we are very proud of them.”
