Great grower interest in cotton growing in Conargo
Cotton Australia has supported an important yet informal cotton event at Conargo, only 40 minutes north of the Victorian border.
The Southern Valleys CGA decided to stage the 'Conargo Cotton Conference' recently in response to increasing interest from those who have never grown cotton before, those who are currently not growing cotton, and those who got some in the ground in the past season.
The informal preseason meeting was a great success with over 45 people in attendance including over 25 farmers to hear from Paul Cleton, Lachie Danckert, Joe Briggs (SVCGA), Kieran O’Keefe (Cotton Info and Sam O’Rafferty (Summit Ag).
Southern NSW Regional Manager Tom Mannes, who also addressed the gathering, said it was great to see so much support for cotton in our southernmost growing area.
“There’s a lot of interest in cotton in the region and while we have had some challenges over the last season things are looking up and growers are re-examining cotton as a crop option moving forward.”
