Cotton Australia hosts LNP as part of political engagement program
Cotton Australia has hosted Queensland’s Opposition at an evening dinner engagement in Brisbane where attendees were provided with a 2024 crop update and policy briefing.
Among the guests was Queensland Opposition Leader David Crisafulli, Shadow Minister for Agriculture Tony Perrett, and Shadow Minister for Water and Regional Development Deb Frecklington.
With Chair Nigel Burnett, Board Member April Cavanagh, CA CEO Adam Kay and GM Michael Murray among the CA representatives, the MP’s and their staff were informed of the current challenges faced by all growers and the policy initiatives that impact all farmers including energy and training reforms along with water policy concerns.
The Opposition Leader told the gathering that he wanted to understand the areas that the LNP could assist growers with if his party wins government at the next election, due in Queensland in October – Adam Kay and Michael Murray provided feedback on those core issues of interest to all growers.
Mr Burnett also paid tribute to retiring Member for Gregory Lachlan Millar who has announced he will not be contesting the 2024 Queensland election after nine years in Parliament.
Mr Millar told the gathering that he greatly respects the cotton industry and the success of Nigel and his father, whom he has known for many decades.
The party vowed to stay available to the cotton industry to ensure it continues to flourish in Queensland. Cotton Australia hosted Queensland Government (ALP) MP’s and staff last November.
