myBMP review begins to ensure it meets the changing needs of growers and global markets

The review of the myBMP program began in late October, with consultants Schuster Consulting Group and GED Advisory meeting Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay and CRDC Executive Director Allan Williams to assess the program’s alignment with sustainability requirements. The review aims to ensure the program meets the needs of the end users of Australian cotton as well as our communities and growers.

Originally focused on reducing environmental impacts and addressing social licence requirements in Australia, myBMP now plays an important role in demonstrating the sustainability of Australian cotton. With increased scrutiny from global markets, particularly in Europe and the United States, the review will explore necessary updates to maintain access to these markets and meet the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) requirements of major brands.

The review will also consider the rise of competing national programs, such as the USA’s Cotton Trust Protocol and Brazil’s Responsible Brazilian Cotton (ABR), which aim to meet similar sustainability demands. Ensuring the myBMP product remains credible, effective, and fit-for-purpose is essential in maintaining Australia’s strong sustainability credentials in the global cotton market.
