National Agriculture Day wrap

Cotton Australia proudly celebrated our food and fibre producers on National Ag Day, sharing the great story of Australia Cotton with the community through a range of events and initiatives.

Events

CA attended the Queensland Farmers Federation (QFF) National Agriculture Day AgTech Breakfast which explored how technology can enable agriculture to meet the challenge of producing food, fibre and foliage in a world of efficiency, sustainability and traceability.

The event featured guest speaker, Phil Morle, Partner at the CSIRO's venture capital fund - Main Sequence Ventures, followed by a panel discussion featuring Cotton Australia ‘s General Manager, Michael Murray and speakers from peak bodies CANEGROWERS and Queensland Fruit & Vegetable Growers.

Later in the day Cotton Australia joined the QFF to shine the spotlight on Queensland farmers by putting on a show at Reddacliffe Place in Brisbane’s CBD for National Agriculture Day.

Education

Cotton Australia contributed to a new Digital Learning Kit launched by the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) for National Ag Week 2023. The Kit features a suite of primary and secondary curriculum aligned resources to engage teachers and students in Australian food and fibre education.

Cotton Australia’s Education Manager Jenny Hughes joined on a panel discussion at the 2023 Urban Agriculture Forum in Sydney on how agricultural education can lead to careers in the farming sector.

Social media

We used National Ag Day to share the story of one of our next generation of Australian cotton farmers. The video of Lauren Roellgen, daughter of 2023 Growers of the Year Johannes and Scarlett Roellgen has drawn great interest and has been viewed more than 11,000 times across social media channels. Go Lauren!
