Cotton on the agenda at the National Australian Geography Teachers Conference
Simone Cameron, Senior Policy Officer at Cotton Australia, presented at the National Conference of the Australian Geography Teachers Association in Darwin this week. Her lecture, titled Cultivating a Sense of Place: Integrating the Australian Cotton Landscape into the Geography Classroom, explored how the Australian cotton industry can enrich students' understanding of geography through real-world examples.
The presentation aligned with the conference theme, 'A Sense of Place,' and covered topics such as sustainable farming practices, environmental stewardship, and community connections to the land. Geography offers a fantastic opportunity for students to delve deeper into the cotton story in Australia and explore how the industry connects with Asia through the cotton supply chain.
In addition to her lecture, Simone also hosted an interactive workshop with participants joining in on a Water Sharing Game to further investigate how water is a shared resource.
