'Teach the Teacher' events venture into new territory

The inaugural ‘Teach the Teacher’ event in northern Australia took place in Katherine this week, with approximately 25 educators visiting the WANT cotton gin and the Katherine Research Station to see cotton growing first-hand. The day wrapped up with a networking BBQ for the teachers.

Simon Cameron, Senior Policy Manager for Cotton Australia, based in Katherine in the Northern Territory, coordinated the event in collaboration with Education Manager Jenny Hughes, the Northern Territory Cotton Growers Association and WANT Cotton.

Feedback on the event was overwhelmingly positive, with Jo Hersey, the local member for Katherine, praising the day as “very informative.”

Trangie hosts its first event in a decade.

More ‘Teach the Teacher’ events were held across NSW over the past fortnight, spanning from Leeton to Moree. Among them was the first event in Trangie in ten years organised by Mel Swift, myBMP Sustainability Implementation Officer, where educators enjoyed some warm food on a chilly night following a field walk in one of the Browning’s cotton paddocks and a tour of the AFF Trangie gin.
