Cotton Australia Engages with Queensland Ministers

With Queensland’s relatively new State Government settling in, Cotton Australia has had several opportunities for strong engagement.

Cotton Australia has met formally with Minister for Agriculture Tony Perrett and Minister for Water Anne Leahy, as well as ministerial staff from other portfolios, including the Minister for Resources.

Last week, Cotton Australia General Manager Michael Murray attended the Minister for Agriculture’s 2050 Blueprint Forum in Brisbane. It was encouraging to see Minister Perrett highlight the importance of ensuring agriculture remains profitable. As the Blueprint develops, Cotton Australia will continue advocating for a strong focus on profitability.

Following the forum workshop, Cotton Australia Chair Nigel Burnett and General Manager Michael Murray attended a Queensland Farmers’ Federation (QFF) dinner with Ministers Perrett and Leahy. This provided an opportunity for direct engagement in a more informal setting. Cotton Australia welcomed the Ministers' straightforward approach and looks forward to further announcements in the near future.

The week of engagement concluded with Minister Perrett addressing the QFF Council meeting, where he reiterated his commitment to agricultural profitability and ensuring the Agriculture Blueprint is a whole-of-government initiative rather than solely his own.
