Keen interest in Grower of the Year Field Day
Strong interest in the Bayer Cotton Grower of the Year Field Day has resulted in a surge of registrations as the final arrangements are being made for what is considered the biggest on-farm event on its kind for the cotton industry.
This year the host will be Scott Balsillie, farm manager for Eastern Australia Agriculture in Dirranbandi with the Field Day being held at Clyde. Scott is the 2024 Bayer Cotton Grower of the Year and has a passion for improving water use efficiency through the bankless conversion from siphons.
The theme will flow through to one of the major panel discussions of the day with irrigation designer Glenn Lyons, Steve McVeigh - AgrRisk High Achiever for 2024, and Craig Saunders - Plantation Farm discussing ‘Why bankless irrigation works.”
Steve McVeigh said water and labour-saving techniques were behind his adoption of bankless, alongside siphons and overhead. “We’re about development and diversification and we want to spread water over more hectares because we want to conserve every drop that we can.”
The 2025 Field Day will be held on the 5th of March with buses departing Moree, Mungindi, St George and Lightning Ridge, returning the same evening.
