Emerald Students explore Cotton growing and ‘Teach the Teacher’ dates announced
Emerald Christian College Students Explore Cotton Farming
Students from Years 2, 3, and 4 at Emerald Christian College recently visited Deneliza, the Kiely family farm, as part of their studies on life cycles and design. The excursion followed last year’s visit to the Geddes family’s Laikipia farm, where they saw young cotton plants and learned about farm management, including starting siphons and using beat sheets for bug checks with an agronomist.
This time, the students returned to see how the cotton had developed over the season. Their teacher, Elizabeth Jessop, said she is keen to bring agriculture—particularly cotton—into the classroom, helping students connect their learning with real-world farming practices.

Teach the Teacher
Moura in Central Queensland is scheduled to be the first location in a series of upcoming ‘Teach the Teacher’ events.
‘Teach the Teacher’ events offer educators the chance to visit a local farm and cotton gin in cotton-growing regions and to engage directly with farmers and industry experts to learn more about the Australian Cotton industry.
Teachers also discover learning tools and resources to take back to the classroom. The event is free for all educators from Kindergarten to Year 12 and includes a light dinner.
Upcoming dates:
- Moura QLD - 25 March
- Katherine NT - 2 April
- Goondiwindi QLD - 28 April
- Kununurra WA - 22 April
- Leeton/Griffith NSW - 21 May
