Cotton Australia demonstrates value for growers in 2025
The Chair of the Cotton Australia Board, Nigel Burnett has released the 2025 season value proposition for growers, demonstrating the peak body is on track to deliver $7 to $10 return on every dollar paid by growers in their annual voluntary levies.
As you have seen in the previous article (Cotton Industry Levy Preferences now on NGR Payees) we are working with a number of the ginners to make opting in for the levy more streamlined. Please review the Cotton Australia value proposition document.
As a clear display of the value that CA brings its growers, the service level has increased, yet in real terms the levy has decreased. Not only has the levy not been increased for more than a decade, standing at $1.50 (plus GST) per bale of ginned cotton, but the levy decreased from $2.25 to $2 in 2012 and from $2 to $1.50 in 2013.
CEO Adam Kay said the reason CA was able to decrease the levy, and keep the levy at a low level for 10 years plus, is support from our growers.
“Of the circa 1500 growers in Australia, around 80% contribute to the levy and if all growers did the levy could be reduced further.”
Cotton Australia will continue to deliver substantial benefits to growers to clearly highlight the level of support the peak body provides to ensuring the industry remains thriving, trusted and in demand.
“It is our aim to continue to deliver substantial return on investment on every levy paid, and we are on track to demonstrate that through benefits that are both tangible and intangible.
“We are currently working with independent economists to update this study to ensure it is current.”
