Cotton Australia attends the first Global Nature Positive Summit
Cotton Australia participated in the inaugural Global Nature Positive Summit in Sydney, where experts from around the world discussed how to drive investments in natural restoration through government and private sector markets.
Cotton Australia Policy Officer Jennifer Brown and Cotton Research Development Corporation (CRDC) Executive Director Allan Williams attended the summit as part of the National Farmers’ Federation delegation, representing Australian agriculture. With a focus on biodiversity and natural capital, this invite-only event was crucial for Australian cotton growers to have a voice in how agriculture can contribute to these efforts.
A session on the Australian approach to biodiversity highlighted the Australian Agriculture Sustainability Framework (AASF) and Farming for the Future. These initiatives aim to enhance natural capital by integrating agriculture and nature, facilitating landscape restoration, and promoting sustainable land management. The session attracted significant interest from an international audience eager to learn more about this approach.
Cotton Australia supports the AASF through its myBMP program and the PLANET. PEOPLE. PADDOCK. sustainability framework. The cotton industry’s efforts in soil health, water management, and native vegetation align well with the nature positive approach, creating opportunities for sustainable farming and access to emerging finance.
