Connecting with Growers and Communities in Northern Australia

A recent visit to Northern Australia gave Cotton Australia’s myBMP Customer Service Manager, Nicole Scott, and Senior Policy Manager – Northern Australia, Simone Cameron, the chance to connect with growers, support progress through the myBMP program and take part in local community events.

In Kununurra, the team joined the OrdCo display at the annual Agricultural Show on 11–12 July. The event brought together local communities and industries from across the region, providing a good opportunity to speak with visitors and share insights about cotton’s role in the north.

While in the Ord, Nicole and Simone visited the new cotton classing facility based at OrdCo – the first of its kind in Northern Australia – and delivered myBMP signage to Norwood Agriculture’s Manbijim property. Farm Manager David Lemmon was happy to receive the signage, marking another step in the property’s myBMP journey.

The team then travelled to Katherine, where they visited Claravale Station for a final myBMP preparation meeting ahead of their upcoming audit. They also visited Douglas Station and Blackbull, both of which are already certified through myBMP.

The trip coincided with the 60th Annual Katherine Show, which attracts around 40,000 people over two days. Nicole and Simone presented at the Rabobank truck, joined the Nutrien Ladies Sundowner celebrating women in agriculture, and spoke with Minister Joshua Burgoyne during the event. NT Broadacre also showcased the region’s first cotton stripper, which drew plenty of attention from growers and locals alike.

To support the NT Isolated Children’s Parents’ Association, Cotton Australia donated two cotton horse rugs on behalf of local growers. The equestrian pack raised $1600 at the annual fundraiser, contributing to more than $174,000 raised for the education of children living in remote and regional areas.
