Great Result for Traceable Australia Better Cotton

100% of eligible, myBMP certified growers have opted to take part in Traceable Better Cotton from Australia this season, with this expected to equate to around 500,000 metric tonnes.

This means that myBMP / Better Cotton bales will be able to be physically traced from Better Cotton certified merchants onwards using the Better Cotton Platform, with the traditional mass balance Better Cotton also remaining available.

Cotton Australia has been working with Better Cotton to implement a simplified process for Traceable Better Cotton from Australia that means minimal work for growers, no new requirements from the gins, and traceability to country-of-origin level.

Growers are encouraged to engage with merchants about possible premiums for this additional attribute, which has been demanded by brands globally in response to new green washing legislation and due diligence requirements. Cotton Australia will be helping drive demand through Better Cotton and direct communication with Better Cotton brand members, recognising it will take time for this to be realised through the supply chain.

If any grower is unsure what this means for you or your business, please contact the myBMP office on 1800cotton, or download Information for Growers.
