Ministerial Meeting on Border Rivers Overland Flow licences

Cotton Australia General Manager Michael Murray and Border Rivers Food and Fibre Executive Officer John Shannon met with James Benjamin, Water Advisor to Queensland Water Minister Anne Leahy, in Brisbane this week.

The key agenda item was the process for determining and issuing Overland Flow licences in the Border Rivers, with irrigators expressing genuine concerns about the process and that, in many cases, draft entitlements appear significantly lower than expected.

The meeting emphasised the need for every opportunity to ground truth model assumptions at the individual property level to ensure results reflect on-the-ground reality.

Other issues discussed included Sunwater water pricing and Queensland metering regulations.
