Ministers briefed on QLD Cotton grower priorities

Cotton Australia recently hosted Queensland government ministers and their key staff at an informal dinner as part of the organisation’s annual engagement plan.

Minister for Agriculture Mark Furner, Resources Minister Scott Stewart and Minister for Water and Regional Development Glen Butcher were among the senior political leaders in attendance.

Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay and GM Michael Murray were able to brief the Ministers and staff on a range of issues including Smart Ag Queensland, the need for long-term access to the Dawson Valley Strategic Infrastructure Reserve Water and the removal of stamp duty on crop insurance products.

There was also discussion about lifting the definition of Small Electricity User from 100 Megawatts per Year to 160 Megawatts per year and a review of land tax rules for foreign owned primary production land.

Board Chair Nigel Burnett and members April Cavanagh and Matt McVeigh were also in attendance. The dinners are held for both the Opposition and the Government once a year.
