Kununurra hosts first Teach the Teacher event
The first-ever Teach the Teacher event in Kununurra was held last week, with 13 participants attending from early childhood through to high school, as well as local parent committee members.
Coordinated by Cotton Australia’s Simone Cameron with the support of local growers and industry, the event gave attendees the chance to visit three local farms and trial sites, including the Regional Northern Australia Crop Research Alliance (NACRA), where cotton, corn and mung bean rotations are being trialled. The event also visited Baldy Bay (managed by David Heidke), and Ceres Farm (owned by Matt and Mel Gray). One of the farms even used melons and pumpkins in their rotation.
The group finished the day with a social BBQ alongside local resellers, agronomists and growers, with plenty of valuable conversations and learning opportunities.
Cotton Australia runs Teach the Teacher events in cotton-growing regions across the country to help educators better understand how cotton is grown. Following the success of the first Northern Territory event in Katherine last year, the event will return to the NT in late May.
