AgVision Yanco inspires students to explore ag careers
AgVision 2024 was recently held at Yanco Agricultural High School, after a six-year break, welcoming almost 500 students from nearly 30 schools. The Agri-Careers Expo, last held in Junee in 2018, aims to help students in Years 9–11 explore a range of careers in agriculture and agri-business.
At the event, Cotton Australia led two interactive workshops, which ran multiple times throughout the day. The Cotton Processing Manager & Supply Chain workshop was led by Jenny Hughes and Kate O'Callaghan, Executive Director of Southern Cotton, while the Cotton Production and Agronomy session was presented by Cotton Australia’s Regional Manager of Southern NSW, Tom Mannes, and Hayden Petty, RD&E Manager at Summit Ag. Both sessions highlighted career pathways within the cotton industry while giving students a hands-on experience.
The event was a great success, with over 90% of students saying it helped them make career decisions. One student from Lake Cargelligo Central School said, "I enjoyed discovering new careers, some that I had never heard of, and growing my agricultural knowledge."
