Education Partnership Strengthened and More Teach the Teacher Dates Announced

Cotton Australia Education Manager Jenny Hughes attended the Primary Industries Education Foundation Australia (PIEFA) Board Networking Lunch in Sydney, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to supporting agricultural education.

The lunch brought together industry representatives and educators to discuss ways to enhance food and fibre education in Australian schools. Cotton Australia has a long-standing partnership with PIEFA, working to ensure teachers have access to free, curriculum-aligned resources that integrate food and fibre topics across multiple subjects, including Geography, Science, Design and Technology, Fashion, Mathematics, and Career Education.

PIEFA is the national peak body for food and fibre education and was established through a collaboration between the Australian Government, primary industries organisations, and the education sector. It aims to build knowledge about food and fibre production and career pathways within the school system.

The PIEFA team was instrumental in co-developing a new set of resources tailored to primary and secondary students. Each year group from Year 1 to Year 12 has a customised set of materials designed to engage and educate. From discovering why farmers love ladybirds to exploring the process from seed to sock, students can immerse themselves in the world of cotton like never before.

Cotton Australia is offering scholarships to support two) early career teachers with a passion for learning, are interested in exposure to the Australian cotton industry and want to attend the full PIEFA Conference in Canberra on 19-20 May 2025.

Let a teacher know about the opportunity – applications close 28 March.
