Strengthening relations with Indonesia
Cotton Australia had the opportunity to highlight the growth of cotton in northern Australia during a meeting with an Indonesian agriculture delegation in the Northern Territory late last year.
Cotton Australia’s Northern Australia Manager, Simone Cameron, was invited to join in the roundtable with the Indonesian Ambassador, His Excellency Dr Siswo Pramono, and a delegation of senior Indonesian officials from the Ministry of Agriculture in Indonesia during their visit to Darwin in December.
The Northern Territory Government and industry representatives, including Simone, provided the Indonesian delegation with an overview of the agriculture industries in the Northern Territory.
Simone gave a brief on the Australian Cotton Industry and the emergence of cotton in northern Australia, including discussion on the strong linkage to cattle production.
With around 10% of Australian Cotton being exported to Indonesia, opportunities in the raw fibre and textile markets were also discussed.
Strengthening relations with our Indonesian neighbours in northern Australia is a key priority for the Northern Territory Government and this visit reinforced the close partnership between Indonesia and the Northern Territory.
