Mungindi Cotton Growers AGM and Charity Golf Day

The Mungindi Cotton Growers Association (CGA) held its annual general meeting last week, with all office bearers returning to their roles. CGA Chair Ben Warby said growers are heading into the season on a positive note, with most now holding full water on farm and some receiving general security or medium priority allocations.

At the meeting, growers discussed ongoing frustrations around forklift licensing requirements and received updates on key industry issues from Cotton Australia’s Michael Murray and Border Rivers Food and Fibre EO John Shannon. The season was reviewed, and Queensland Cotton and LCD provided briefings on the cotton and cotton seed market outlook. Local variety trials showing strong yield data were also highlighted as a priority for growers.

CGA support extends beyond cotton, with funding provided to the local fishing club, which is set to release a major batch of fingerlings into the river.

Mungindi CGA Annual Charity Golf Day

The community came together at the CGA’s Annual Charity Golf Day on 22 August where, despite wet conditions and puddles around the course, more than 140 people attended the event at the Mungindi Golf Club, raising over $30,000 for nineteen local community groups.

Ben Warby, who organised the golf day, said the generosity of sponsors and participants was inspiring. “All nineteen community groups we were able to raise money for add an enormous amount to our little community and make it a great place to live. It is a privilege for the Cotton Growers Association to be able to do a small bit to help these groups and our community flourish,” he said.
