First Teach the Teacher event for 2026 held in Emerald
On Friday 6 February, the Central Highlands Cotton Growers & Irrigators Association (CHCG&IA) hosted the first Teach the Teacher Tour for 2026, welcoming a group of local teachers and health professionals for an afternoon exploring agriculture across the region.
The tour included a visit to Oliver Volck’s Garden Creek cotton farm before visiting the Superior Productions citrus nursery, and the Fairbairn Dam spillway, finishing off with sunset barbecue.
Teach the Teacher gives local educators a chance to see agriculture up close, from cotton farms to citrus nurseries and water infrastructure. It’s a great way for educators to take what they learn back to the classroom, helping students understand where their food and fibre come from.
Teach the Teacher events are run every year across cotton-growing regions, Cotton Australia works with local Cotton Growing Associations (CGAs) to connect educators with growers.
The Emerald tour was made possible through the support of volunteers and sponsors involved with CHCG&IA.
