Cotton Blooms & Tea Tales Celebrates Northern Agriculture at Taste of the Kimberley
A morning at Kununurra’s Cotton Blooms & Tea Tales event saw 37 attendees take part in a farm visit and hear stories from people involved in Western Australia’s northern cotton industry.
The event was part of the annual Taste of the Kimberley, a celebration of the region's agriculture, food production, and rich Indigenous heritage amid its stunning landscapes. Visitors sampled local flavours and learned how cotton plays a role in everyday life, with discussions highlighting the industry’s long history and the recent resurgence in production thanks to the Ord River Irrigation Scheme and the newly opened cotton gin.
The day featured farm tours and a panel session hosted by ABC’s Matt Brann and Cotton Australia’s Simone Cameron, including the engaging “You Can’t/Can Ask That” segment. The evening showcased the strong spirit of northern Australian communities, with the event hosted by Cotton Australia and Wincott – Women in Cotton.
Simone Cameron, Senior Policy Manager for Northern Australia at Cotton Australia, said, “It’s great to see people coming together to hear the stories behind our northern cotton industry. Events like this give everyone a chance to celebrate the work being done here and see why WA cotton is so important.”
