Central Highlands cotton growers recognised at 2026 industry awards night
Central Highlands cotton growers and industry representatives gathered in Emerald on 6 March for the annual Central Highlands Cotton Growers and Irrigators Association Awards Night, recognising production results from the 2024–25 season and contributions to the regional industry.
Hundreds of growers, industry representatives and supporters attended the event at Emerald Town Hall, where awards were presented for irrigated and rain-grown production, fibre quality and service to the industry.
Central Highlands Cotton Growers and Irrigators Association president Alex Doyle said the event recognised the growers and industry leaders helping shape the region’s cotton sector.
Irrigated Yield Awards – 2024/25 Season
- 1st Place: 16.24 bales/ha – Elkview (Hampton family)
- 2nd Place: 15.33 bales/ha – Garden Creek, Retreat (Volck family)
- 3rd Place: 14.28 bales/ha – NRG, Argoon (Morawitz family)
Quality Awards – 2024/25 Season
- 1st Place: Scott and Louise Russell – Consuelo
- 2nd Place: RFM – Baamba Plains
- 3rd Place: RFM – Mayneland
Rain-grown Yield Awards – 2024/25 Season
- 1st Place: Greg Kruger – Barrain
- 2nd Place: Ross and Leanne Burnett – Wyuna
The contributions of individuals to the cotton industry were also recognised on the night.
- Grower Service to Industry Award: Nigel Burnett, Colorada
- Liz Alexander Memorial Service to Industry Award: Cathy Cook, LDC
Nigel Burnett, a former Chair of Cotton Australia for four years, was recognised for his long-standing contribution to the cotton industry. Over many years Nigel has taken on a range of industry roles, represented growers at a national level while continuing to support the development of the industry and encourage the next generation of growers and leaders.
