Cotton industry stewardship is crucial to ensuring the long-term future of Australia’s cotton industry. It includes stewardship of natural resources which is achieved through the myBMP program and also the good management of technologies that support cotton production.
Cotton Australia coordinates the Transgenic and Insect Management Strategies committee (commonly referred to as the TIMS committee) is the cotton industry’s stewardship group, with broad representation from growers, researchers, crop consultants and members of the pulse and grains industries.
One of TIMS’ main roles is to develop regional Insecticide Resistance Management Strategies (IRMS), the Bollgard II Resistance Management Plan (RMP) and Roundup Ready and Liberty Crop Management Plans (CMPs).
It is critical that cotton growers using transgenic technologies are aware of and are implementing these strategies. This will help to ensure access to these important technologies well into the future.
