STOP THE BLEED® webinar
A recent webinar, delivered by Cotton Australia in partnership with the Jamieson Trauma Institute, provided preliminary STOP THE BLEED® training to attendees.
STOP THE BLEED® teaches people without medical training how to respond to serious bleeding injuries. It covers simple but critical actions, including applying pressure, packing a wound and using a tourniquet.
In rural and remote areas, emergency medical help can take longer to arrive. In those situations, the first few minutes after an injury are often the most important. Being able to control bleeding quickly can save lives.
Practical training for regional communities
Professor Michael Muller, a Brisbane-based general and burns surgeon, presented the webinar. He has led the Queensland rollout of the program since 2024, working with emergency response teams and supporting wider training across the state.
He is also looking for opportunities to deliver more hands-on training in regional Queensland. Cotton grower associations interested in hosting a session can contact their regional manager to discuss feasibility or speak with the STOP THE BLEED® team at the Australian Cotton Conference.
The STOP THE BLEED® team will also be at the Cotton Conference, where they will run demonstrations and answer questions. A training video (shown during the webinar) is also available for those wanting to learn more.
Emergency Plus App
Downloading the free Emergency Plus App was recommended to help emergency services locate you quickly and accurately during an emergency— especially when every second counts.
Whether you're at home, out on the farm, or traveling, Emergency Plus provides your exact GPS coordinates to help responders find you faster.
Partnership and ongoing support
The webinar forms part of a broader partnership with the Jamieson Trauma Institute through the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital Foundation.
The Institute was also the preferred charity for the 2025 Cotton Collective. At the Cotton Awards Dinner that year, former Queensland Health Minister and maxillofacial surgeon Dr Anthony Lynham spoke about the Institute’s work and the STOP THE BLEED® initiative.
Following this, a three-year agreement was signed to support STOP THE BLEED® as one of the industry’s Here for Good projects.
Under the agreement, the program will provide ongoing training and awareness opportunities for the cotton industry and acknowledge industry support.
