Cotton jobs on show for Cairns youth
Cotton Australia has partnered with the QLD Government to showcase cotton jobs at the 2023 Business Liaison Association’s Cairns Youth & Careers Expo.
Cotton Australia’s policy officer for workforce issues Paul Sloman was invited to participate on the Department of Youth Justice Small Business and Training stand at the expo.
“It was a great opportunity because as the cotton industry expands in north Queensland, linking with tomorrow’s workforce will be critical to ensuring we have adequate numbers of young people seeing the cotton industry as a viable career option.”
The Expo brought together a vast range of education and career providers to inspire the north QLD community, and students in years 10, 11, and 12 with their career decision-making. An estimated 2000 students attended the Expo which is the only event of its kind in Far North Queensland.
During the EXPO Cotton Australia organised for one attendee to participate in school arranged work experience on a local cotton grower’s property and representatives from Cairns State High School requested a Teach the Teacher event to be arranged for them – two excellent outcomes from the day.
