In October 2015 the Queensland Government's Department of Energy and Water Supply announced its intentions to continue progress towards Local Management Arrangements (LMAs) of SunWater irrigation channel schemes in St George, Emerald, Theodore and Eton. The Queensland Government is now seeking nominations for Chairperson and Board members to lead Transition Company Boards.
The transitionary boards are completely separate to the interim boards established during 2013-14 and both previous members of the interim boards, local irrigators and those with relevant skills and expertise are encouraged to consider applying. Expressions of interest (EOI) close on February 8, 2016.
Cotton Australia and cotton growers in the cotton-growing valleys have been working hard for more than two years to bring about change to local water management, which was backed by overwhelming support from local growers.
The objective of the transitional companies is to enter into contractual discussions with Government on the final terms and conditions for the transfer of ownership and operation of the irrigation schemes to local management.
