Cotton Australia has welcomed the appointment of David Littleproud to the role of Minister for Agriculture & Water Resources.

Mr Littleproud assumes the role from outgoing Agriculture Minister, Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce, who assumes the new role of Minister for Infrastructure & Transport.

"Mr Littleproud is from a rural Queensland electorate and will be a strong advocate for farmers and people in the bush," says Cotton Australia General Manager, Michael Murray.

"The cotton industry enjoyed a good working relationship with Mr Joyce, and we look forward to continuing that relationship with Mr Littleproud."

"We take this opportunity to congratulate Mr Joyce on his new appointment, and thank him for his leadership of the Agriculture and Water portfolios. He has been a passionate advocate for farmers and rural Australians – we have great respect for his contribution and, in particular, his advocacy for a commonsense approach to water issues. We look forward to working with him on infrastructure and transport issues, both of which have huge importance for farmers."

"The cotton industry also welcomes new National Deputy Leader Bridget McKenzie to the Cabinet, as Minister for Regional Telecommunications and John McVeigh, as Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government."

Cotton Australia is the peak representative body for Australia’s cotton growing industry.
