Cotton Australia has expressed thanks to departing Queensland Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Economic Development - Bill Byrne - for his support for the industry.

Mr Byrne has resigned as Minister due to a serious medical condition and will not recontest the seat of Rockhampton at the next state election.

"We thank Bill Byrne for his service as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Economic Development in Queensland's Parliament, and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery," says Cotton Australia General Manager, Michael Murray.

"Minister Byrne was always very supportive of the cotton industry and we worked with him on important issues including water availability, electricity pricing and the resources sector, so it is with sadness that we have learnt of his health concerns."

"However, we are pleased to welcome Dr Anthony Lynham to the role of Acting Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Economic Development, and looking to working with him on issues important to cotton growers and other Queensland farmers."

Cotton Australia is the peak representative body for Australia’s cotton growing industry.
